Getting Here + Parking Tips (Locals’ Version)
If you’re driving, the best move is to park once near Valentina’s on Livingstone Rd and do the rest on foot.
Livingston Rd: usually some spare parking but fills up fast on weekends
Pile St or George St: possible along the street but is mainly taken by residents
Insider tip: take notice of parking signage as not all are 2Ps
Doing this on a weekend? Arrive before 9:00am if you want the easiest park and avoid the queues outside Valentina’s.
This is for the days you want to feel like a local — not rushed, not “sightseeing”, just moving through good places that Marrickville genuinely does well: food, quiet corners, and a little sensory wandering that resets your brain.

The 6 Stops (In Order)
Start at Valentina’s — an all-day diner that’s become a genuine Marrickville anchor. Walk-ins only, so the move is simple: go early if you want it easy.
Address: 132 Livingstone Rd, Marrickville
Hours: 7am–3pm (weekdays + weekends). Closed public holidays.
Local note: If the weather’s good, aim for outside. Marrickville is at its best when you’re watching it wake up.
From here, walk it off to Marrickville Library — a genuinely beautiful, award-winning space that’s perfect for a quiet reset.
Grab a spot, read a chapter, write a few notes, or just sit in a calm public space that feels unusually good to be in.
Address: Patyegarang Place, 313 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville
Hours: Mon–Thu 9am–7:30pm, Fri 9am–5:30pm, weekends 10am–5pm
Stop 3 — Goodwood Bakeshop (pastries)
Next: Goodwood Bakeshop. It’s one of those small, high-quality bakeries where you don’t overthink it — you just pick what looks good right now.
If you’re a custard tart person: yes. (Burnt custard tart is my favourite.)
Address: 297 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville
Hours: Thu–Sun 7am–2pm (or until sold out)
Now for the Marrickville part people underestimate: the grocery wander.
Head toward the Vietnamese heart around Illawarra Road and do it properly — slow lap, no agenda, just wander aisles and see what you didn’t know you wanted. Fresh herbs, tofu, pantry staples, snacks, fruit and veg — this is the kind of stop that makes Marrickville feel like Marrickville.
Thai Hung Supermarket: 307–309 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville
Kung Fu Grocery: 305 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville
Lunch is Lox In A Box (Corner Deli) — chewy bagels, proper deli energy, and the kind of “simple done well” lunch that finishes the middle of the day perfectly.
Address: 312 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville
Hours: Mon–Fri 7am–3pm, Sat–Sun 8am–3pm
Finish back on Marrickville Road at Gelato Franco — a classic Italian gelateria that’s been holding its own for years.
It’s the perfect “walk it off” finale: a gelato, a slow stroll, then you’re done — full, reset, and weirdly calmer than when you started.
Address: 281 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville
Hours note: Hours can vary by source — check before you go.
Simple timing (if you want it effortless)
Breakfast: Valentina’s
Reset: Marrickville Library
Pastry: Goodwood
Wander: Thai Hung + Kung Fu Grocery
Lunch: Lox In A Box
Finish: Gelato Franco
